$5,000.00

Two 40x40” born deep edge canvas oil paintings of a unique and heartfelt style of renowned Australian Artist Mark Strother.

Mark Strother says ‘ 2022 is the year I turned 50. It is also the year I felt a deep sense of shame for the way the British colonists took over the Country of Australia, robbing a peaceful people of so much. I shed tears over what is lost and never coming back. The first painting is an imagining of what the Main Street of Werribee might have looked like 200 years ago. It has a blue wash over it, symbolic of tears coming out of the sky because the stealing and destruction of land and the harming of a culture and people.

The second painting in this set, is inspired by the Main Street of Werribee in 2022, looking across to the Vietnam war memorial. There is a red and grey wash over the painting symbolic of the unnecessary blood that has been shed over the years. Killing and destroying land through pollution and exploitation is a common theme throughout ‘civilised’ society.’
