I was inspired to paint this from a photo I took of a quiet village street in Sumba, in Indonesia. It was my first trip overseas and I was stunned be the new world I had found myself in. There was no traffic noise. No sense of urgency. It was so peaceful. It was like a place that had been forgotten by the rest of the world. Everything was so different to my senses. Even the sticks in the ground making up the fences had grown leaves giving an other worldly feel to the place.
